1. Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Language Traveler mobile application ("App") developed by Anil Burcu ("we," "us," or "our"), an independent developer.

By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Language Traveler. By using the App, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are between 13 and 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you confirm that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Account

You may create an account using your email address (with a one-time password delivered to your inbox), Apple Sign-In, or Google Sign-In. You are responsible for safeguarding access to the email inbox and OAuth provider accounts you use to sign in, and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or are used for fraudulent purposes, including attempts to claim subscriptions purchased by another account.

4. App Description

Language Traveler is an educational mobile application that helps users learn languages through reading articles in their chosen target language, studying vocabulary with spaced repetition, taking comprehension quizzes, and tracking progress through streaks, experience points (XP), levels, and achievements.

Educational Disclaimer. Content in the App is provided for educational and informational purposes only. Articles, vocabulary entries, translations, definitions, and quiz questions are intended to support language learning and may contain inaccuracies, omissions, oversimplifications, or outdated information. We do not guarantee that use of the App will result in fluency, proficiency, certification, or any specific learning outcome, and the App is not a substitute for accredited language courses or professional language instruction. Translations and explanations are presented to support learning and may not reflect every regional, idiomatic, formal, or specialized usage of the language. Always verify critical information with authoritative sources when accuracy matters — for example, in professional, legal, medical, or safety-related contexts.

Use of AI in Content Preparation. Some of the articles and other learning material in the App were prepared with the editorial assistance of artificial-intelligence tools. All content is reviewed by the developer before being made available, but — as with any human- or AI-assisted writing — errors may remain. If you spot a mistake, please let us know at language-traveler@icodex.dev.

The App itself does not include any AI chat, photo analysis, or voice analysis features at runtime, and we do not directly send the content of your reading, quiz answers, or other in-app activity to any AI provider from our codebase. Our processors (such as Supabase, Sentry, PostHog, RevenueCat, and Expo) may, independently of us, use AI tooling internally to operate their own services; their practices are governed by their own privacy policies, which you can review via the links in our Privacy Policy.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App or its associated services.
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the App, its content, or its services.
  • Circumvent rate limits, security features, or access controls (including paywalls and entitlement checks).
  • Resell, redistribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit access to the App or its content.
  • Copy, mirror, or republish articles, vocabulary lists, lesson content, or other educational material from the App outside its intended in-app use.
  • Use the App in any way that could harm, disable, overburden, or impair the service or other users' enjoyment of it.

We reserve the right to terminate access for violations of these rules.

6. Subscriptions and Payments

6.1 Premium Subscription

Language Traveler offers a Premium subscription with additional features such as expanded article access and unlimited vocabulary study. Subscriptions are sold as monthly and yearly plans through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

6.2 Billing

All payments are processed by Apple or Google through their respective app stores. We do not collect or store your payment information. Prices are displayed in your local currency as determined by the app store and may include applicable taxes.

6.3 Auto-Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage and cancel your subscription through your device's app store settings (Apple: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions; Google: Play Store → Subscriptions).

6.4 Refunds

Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google in accordance with their respective refund policies. We cannot process refunds directly. To request a refund, contact Apple Support or Google Play Support.

6.5 Free Trial

If a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled before the trial ends. The specific trial duration and terms are displayed before purchase.

6.6 Subscription Ownership

Each in-app purchase is tied to the App Store or Google Play account that completed it and to the first Language Traveler account that activates it. We use this binding solely to prevent the same purchase from being claimed by a different Language Traveler account.

7. Intellectual Property

All content in the App — including but not limited to articles, vocabulary lists, translations, definitions, illustrations, icons, design elements, sounds, and software code — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from any part of the App without our prior written consent, except as expressly permitted by these Terms or by applicable mandatory law.

You are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App and its content for your own non-commercial language-learning purposes.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
  • We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
  • We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, suitability, or pedagogical effectiveness of any article, translation, definition, quiz question, or other learning material in the App, nor that use of the App will produce any specific language-learning result.
  • In no event shall we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App.
  • Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us for the App in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €50, whichever is greater.

These limitations do not affect any rights that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your use of the App, or your infringement of any third party's rights.

10. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services: Supabase (backend hosting, authentication, and database), Apple Sign-In and Google Sign-In (authentication), PostHog (analytics), Sentry (error tracking), RevenueCat (subscription management), and Expo (push notifications and over-the-air updates). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices or content of third-party services.

In its operational form, Language Traveler does not directly integrate with any artificial-intelligence or large-language-model service for the features you use inside the App, and our codebase does not send your reading, quiz, or vocabulary activity to any AI provider. We cannot, however, control or guarantee what our third-party processors do internally with the data they receive; their practices are governed by their own privacy policies. Our use of AI as an editorial aid during content preparation is described in Section 4.

11. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through the App: Settings → Personal Info → Delete Account. Upon deletion, your personal data on our servers is permanently removed as described in our Privacy Policy, with limited fraud-prevention records retained as also described there. Active subscriptions must be cancelled through the App Store or Google Play before account deletion.

12. Modifications to the Terms

We reserve the right to update, modify, or replace these Terms at any time, at our sole discretion. Changes may include adding, removing, or revising any section of these Terms. We will notify you of changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. It is your responsibility to review this page periodically for any changes. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you disagree with the changes, you should stop using the App and delete your account.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Turkey. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ankara, Turkey.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also retain any mandatory consumer protection rights provided by the laws of your country of residence. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
